Hanfa warns of fraud calling on citizens to invest in Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) shares

The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa) warns against fraud in which an investment is offered to Croatian citizens via telephone calls as part of the initial public offering (IPO) of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA). The callers are most likely to misrepresent themselves as employees of cTrader and persuade citizens to deposit funds in order to participate in EGA’s IPO.

Hanfa points out that it is not common practice to offer participation in a public offer of shares by telephone. In addition, EGA has not yet formally announced the start of the public offering process. Furthermore, the callers present themselves as employees of cTrader and mislead citizens, as cTrader is not a brokerage firm but the name of the software that brokerage firms normally use to allow their clients to trade on the financial markets.

Hanfa calls on citizens to be cautious and not to make any payments to suspicious entities. Before making an investment decision, citizens are advised to check in the Hanfa Registers which companies are authorised to provide investment services in the territory of Croatia.

In case of need for additional checks or information, citizens can contact Hanfa at the phone number +385 1 6173-200 or via the e-mail address potrosaci@hanfa.hr.
