Ogulin’s First Elementary School wins Hanfa contest for the best work dealing with "Financial Literacy in Verse”

Students of the grade 4a of the First Elementary School Ogulin won the first place in the contest organised by the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa), entitled "Financial Literacy in Verse". Their video, which successfully combined music, lyrics and financial terms, delighted the expert committee and earned their school a valuable prize – an interactive display.

This has been the fourth contest organised by Hanfa for elementary schools, but the first one that has included an innovative approach – combining lyrics and financial topics. The students’ task was to create a song about financial literacy, and it was the work of students from Ogulin that excelled with its originality and creativity.

Twenty four elementary schools from all over Croatia applied for the contest, sending their rap songs, rhymes, bećarac, and other musical forms that reflected the cultural peculiarities of different regions. The diversity of the works received has shown that financial literacy can be successfully integrated into different school subjects.

Jurica Jednačak, member of the Hanfa Board, said at the award ceremony: "This year's contest ‘Financial Literacy in Verse’ has shown how powerful art can be in learning about finance. Students from all over Croatia surprised us with their creativity and originality, combining lyrics, music and financial terms in an inspiring way.”

The school’s principal Ivona Rendulić noted: "This success is a great recognition of our school’s work and a confirmation of the quality of our students' and mentors' efforts."

"The first place in the Hanfa national contest shows that we nurture creativity, knowledge and team spirit, and that we foster financial and media literacy among young people," said the students’ mentor, Suzana Puškarić Žlimen.

Students Noa Matijašić and Jakov Pozaić said that the most amusing part of the project had been singing and recording videos, and making lyrics had been the most challenging. Working on this project, they learned that money should not be borrowed from loan sharks and that saving can make many wishes come true.

In addition to the well-deserved award, the contest winners, their principal and mentor had the opportunity to visit Hanfa’s premises, which was an additional motivational incentive for the students.

The awards were also won by Ivo Andrić Elementary School (2nd place) and Kneginec Gornji Elementary School (3rd place), which also impressed the committee with their interpretation of the topic.

We invite all elementary and high schools to follow Hanfa's educational activities and to participate in our future contests. More information is available at: https://www.hanfa.hr/potrosaci/edukacije/program-edukativnih-aktivnosti/.
