On Wednesday, 16 December 2020, the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa) and Hanza Media will organise an online conference titled “Capital market after the coronavirus crisis, an opportunity for companies and investors“. The conference will last from 10h to 13h, and it will be streamed via Jutarnji list website.

Although the arrival of the vaccine seems like a turning point in the pandemic, we still don't have all the answers, but we can believe that the moment of launching new projects is approaching rapidly. After the EU members have decided for a joint issue of bonds for the first time in history in order to finance a recovery programme worth EUR 750 billion, it is clear that we are entering a period of resolute changes. Estimates suggest that only about 10% of the total EUR 750 billion from the European recovery fund will be allocated in 2021. Therefore, the budget will have to retain a significant portion of the incentives for companies in its structure, but it is clear that the real support should be the capital market, as much as possible. This will be discussed at the hybrid online conference, which will be held on 16 December 2020, by Deputy Prime Minister Zdravko Marić, Labour and Pension System Minister Josip Aladrović and President of the Management Board of Podravka Marin Pucar. Opening speeches, which will introduce the framework of the panel discussion, will be given by the President of Hanfa Board Ante Žigman and economist Velimir Šonje.

“The capital market will be extremely important after this pandemic because companies need fresh inflows of cash. What they receive from banks through loans is burdened with interest and other costs. When they withdraw money from the capital market there are no such costs, and investors are much more ready to take care of the company's fate. The capital market gives a chance to everyone with very good projects and good ideas, so that, with the help of pension or investment funds and investors who buy shares directly, they can get the much needed capital“, said A. Žigman prior to the conference.

How to spur the development of Croatian companies through the capital market will be the topic of discussion at a special panel with the following participants: Tomislav Alpeza, President of the Supervisory Board of The Garden Brewery, dr. sc. Martina Dalić, consultant and owner of Callidus Certus company, Ivana Gažić, President of the Management Board of the ZSE, Tomislav Ridzak, Member of Hanfa Board, Mladen Vedriš, professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb and Petar Vlajić, President of the Association of Pension Companies and Pension Insurance Companies.
