A. Žigman at a conference in Athens: Croatia as an example of progress in corporate governance

Ante Žigman, President of the Hanfa Board, participated in the international conference "Corporate Governance, Sustainability and Diversity: A Step Forward", which took place in Athens on 24 January 2025. In his presentation entitled “Implementing the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance: Croatia’s experiences” he presented the legal and regulatory corporate governance framework in Croatia and the key steps taken by our country in the process of alignment with the G20/OECD Principles.

“Croatia has more than 15 years of experience in monitoring corporate governance practices, which ranks us among the region’s leaders. In recent years, we have made a significant step forward in improving corporate governance practices, as confirmed by our compliance indicators, which have risen from 52% in 2019 to 70% in 2023", said Žigman, adding that "Hanfa has taken a key role in developing and overseeing compliance with the Code of Corporate Governance, enabling continued rise in the level of transparency and accountability".

In his speech, he also mentioned key challenges such as fostering gender balance on boards and committees, as well as the digitalisation of reporting. "Digital technologies are not only a tool, but also the key to achieving better efficiency and transparency," he said.

Mr. Žigman also highlighted the role of regulators in monitoring and educating market stakeholders. "Together with the Zagreb Stock Exchange, Hanfa will continue to promote high corporate governance standards, as they are the basis for the sustainable development of our economy", he concluded.

The conference brought together experts from around the world, creating a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices in the field of corporate governance, sustainability and diversity, with a focus on future challenges and opportunities.
